A practice for Slowing Down

As lovers of tradition, we sew each repair by hand, just as many had done years ago. Our repairs are done using period-correct materials— down to the needle and thread.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • At The Brass Lady, our base rate is 40 USD/hr. This price includes all period-correct scraps, hardware and other materials used to complete your garment. If you have a garment in need of repair that you have purchased from us, we offer a discounted rate of 30 USD/hr. If you would like to receive a cost estimate, please reach out via email by clicking the link above that says “Book Now” or here.

  • Our turnaround times vary depending on the project and the extent of the work that needs to be put into certain pieces. With that being said, our average turnaround time per project is typically 2-4 weeks from the time you ship your garment to us.

  • At the moment, we offer traditional hand-mending services. This means that we are currently offering patching, darning, hemming, and anything else that can be achieved by hand. We are working hard to offer machine repairs and alteration services in the future.

  • Absolutely! If you provide your own material for your garment, we would be happy to offer you a cheaper rate. When booking with us via email, please make mention of this so we can provide you with an adjusted cost estimate.

  • For our repair services, we ask that you pay a deposit of half of your cost estimate up front and cover shipping costs to our shop. Once your garment is repaired and packaged, we will then ask that you pay the difference before we ship it back to you! Shipping on the way back is on us.
